Record
Overall: 5-7
Class B North Star League: 2-2
Overall North Star League: 4-4 North Star League Standings
Wednesday, 6/10 at Rockford Crows
This was a wild one, and likely will go down in Hamel Hawks infamy. Starting with a positive, the Hawks belted 3 home runs in the 2nd inning. Josh Delange, James Hansen, and Brady Zackrison annihilated 3 baseballs to give the Hawks a 5-0 lead. Hamel matched their 2025 HR total in one inning and have already doubled that total in the 9th game of the 2026 season! Unfortunately, Hamel gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the inning, and that would prove to be the trend of the game.
In the 4th inning, James Hansen crushed his second HR of the game giving the Hawks the lead again, becoming the first Hamel Hawk to hit multiple home runs in one game in the wood bat era.
In what felt like 3 hours later, the Hawks found themselves down 14-9. Two delays contributed to the slog. The first, a 10-minute infield sprinkler delay, no big deal. But the second delay tested the mental fortitude of all involved. In the top of the 9th, Hamel scrapped a few runs across to make it 14-12. Then, with multiple dongs on the night, James Hansen stepped up to the plate with 2 outs. He worked a 2-2 count and that's when the Rockford High School baseball stadium lights decided to turn off. The Hawks and Crows tried to make the most of it, with the first-ever mid-at-bat interview on home plate surrounded by players from both teams. 45 minutes later, Hansen struck out on a 2-2 changeup, and the Crows celebrated into the night like they just won the District 6C Championship as Hansen hurled his bat to the right field grass.
Friday, 6/12 vs. Kimball Express
A 7-run 8th inning highlighted by a Jack Lewin grand slam powered the Hawks to a 9-3 North Star League victory. Hamel began the inning down 3-2 but loaded the bases on 2 singles and a walk from pinch-hitter Matt Kramer. James Hansen came up clutch, hitting it through the right side of the infield to score two. Brady Zackrison added an RBI single to make it 5-3. The Hawks loaded the bases again, and 3B Jack Lewin hit a grand slam into the rain for his 3rd of the year and team 7th.
Sam Hagen toed the rubber for the Hawks to start the game, going 6 innings allowing 1 ER on 5 hits and 5 strikeouts. Jake Vanyo earned the win for the Hawks (3 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K).
Saturday, 6/13 at Maple Plain Diamond Devils
Hawks visited Maple Plain on a lovely Saturday afternoon. They lost.
Sunday, 6/14 vs. Cokato Kernels
Hamel bounced back Sunday with a 10-0 mercy rule victory over Cokato. Griffin Booms pitched well in his Hawks' debut (3 IP, 0 R). Jake Vanyo and Elias Leach provided shutdown relief. Hawks pitchers combined for only 2 hits allowed.
Player of the Week James Hansen (SS)
Anytime you hit 2 home runs in a game, you automatically qualify for Player of the Week consideration. In 4 games this week, Hansen went 8-for-21 with 2 HRs, 4 doubles, 8 RBIs, and 8 runs.

Sunday, 5/17 at Kimball Express
The Hawks traveled an hour northwest on Hwy 55 to take on the newest member of the Northstar League, Kimball Express. Hamel's lineup included 3 players making their debut, James Hansen (SS), Connor Johnson (1B), and Trevor Porisch (1B). Hansen and Johnson wasted no time cracking the lineup, batting in the 1-2 spots to start the game. Alex Wattermann started on the mound for the 2nd straight game, coming off an impressive performance a week prior in Glencoe. He followed up that performance with another gem, pitching 6 innings of shutout, 3-hit baseball.
Hamel scratched across a run in the 3rd inning. Dominic Adkins (CF) reached on an error, stole 2nd, and scored from 2nd on an infield single by James Hansen. The Hawks scored again in the 6th off a Brady Zackrison (RF) triple and Alex Wattermann sac-fly. 2 runs were all they needed as Hawks pitching shutdown Kimball. Sam Hagen closed the final 3 innings for the Hawks.
Wednesday, 5/21 vs. Prior Lake Jays
Hamel opened the gates at Paul Fortin Memorial Field for the first time in 2026, hosting an unfamiliar foe, the Prior Lake Jays. The Hawks got out to an early 3rd inning 2-0 lead on a couple of wild throws by the Prior Lake battery. Hamel starting pitcher Jake Vanyo quieted Jays' bats for 6 innings (0 ER, 4 hits, 6 Ks).
Unfortunately, the floodgates opened once Vanyo left the game. Prior Lake put up 6 runs in the next 2 innings to take a 6-2 lead. The Hawks battled back in the 8th inning, however, off of some well-hit baseballs by Trevor Porisch (LF), Brady Zackrison (RF), and Jack Lewin (3B). The rally stalled on a GIDP. Prior Lake won 7-5.
Other Hamel highlights included Jack Lewin going 3/4 at the plate, and Josh Delange (CF) belting a 3-0 pitch to the left-field fence.
Thursday, 5/22 vs. Andover Aces
The Hawks were back at it one night later, hosting Andover at the Fort (but wearing their away jerseys??).
Hamel took the lead in the 1st inning on a wild pitch and never looked back. The Hawks took 8 walks, 1 HBP, and reached base on 4 errors leading to a 10-0 7-inning mercy rule W.
Hawks' pitchers Sam Hagen and Ian Schock combined for a 4-hit, 7-inning shutout.
Players of the Week Starting Pitchers
Alex Wattermann, Jake Vanyo, and Sam Hagen combined for 25 IP, 2 ER, and 23 Ks to start the year, giving Hamel a chance to win all 4 games thus far.

Hamel pushed the lead to 5-2 in the 7th, but lost it in the bottom of the inning as Glencoe scored 4 to make it 6-5. The Hawks were scoreless until the 6th inning when CF Dominic Adkins tied it up on a 2-run single. However, Hudson took the lead right back in the next inning, scoring 2 on a wild pitch and error.
Hamel stayed within striking distance for their last chance in the 9th, down 7-4. A Wattermann hit-by-pitch and a pair of singles from Zackrison and Lewin loaded the bases with 1 out. However, the Hudson lefty closer struck out the next 2 Hamel batters to end the game.

Sunday, 7/6 at Maple Lake Lakers
Hamel and Maple Lake combined for 33 hits in a wild 11-inning North Star League battle. Maple Lake eventually won on a walk-off in the 11th, 9-8.
The Hawks were down 6-2 going into the top of the 9th. C Harrison Boughton led off with a walk, and SS Alex Wattermann followed with a double to the left field corner. RF Brady Zackrison singled to score 1, and 3B Jack Lewin grounded into a FC to make it 6-4 with 2 outs. Pinch hitter Jayden Mersereau doubled, and Jack Puncochar was intentionally walked to load the bases. Then, CF Dominic Adkins came up clutch with a 2-run, game-tying single up the middle. SS Ian Farley gave the Hawks an 8-6 lead on a 2-run double.
Maple Lake fought back in the bottom of the 9th, plating 2 runs on consecutive sac-flys sending the game to extra innings. Hamel bats couldn't find a run in the 10th or 11th, and the Lakers pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the 11th.

The Hawks strung together 11 hits, matching the Lakers' total, but Maple Lake's aggression on the basepaths was too much for Hamel to handle. The Lakers stole 10 bases, including a steal of home in the 2nd inning.
LF Ian Schock went 3 for 6 in his Hawks debut.
Wednesday, 6/4 at Maple Plain Diamond Devils
Hamel traveled west on Highway 12 on a Wednesday night for another North Star League battle at Don Timpe Field. The Hawks came out hot, leading 5-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd. However, an error with 2 outs lead to a 2-run home run, and Maple Plain added 2 more in the 6th inning and 3 in the 8th to take a 7-5 lead.
Hamel wasn't done though, as Alex Wattermann led off the top of the 9th reaching on a dropped third strike. Brady Zackrison stepped up to the plate donning a new natural-finish hard maple bat. He sent a 1-0 fastball to Long Lake, flipping his bat at the opposing dugout in the process, and the game was tied at 7.
Relief pitcher Vann Olson shut down the Diamond Devils in the bottom of the 9th, and the game was suspended due to darkness. The game will resume in the top of the 10th inning on July 11 with the 2nd matchup to follow immediately after.

Friday, 6/6 vs. Montrose/Waverly Stingers

The Stingers took an early 2-0 lead on a couple of errors, but the Hawks answered back in the bottom of the 2nd. Zackrison led off with a walk and eventually scored on a groundout by catcher, Harrison Boughton.
Then, 3B Jack Puncochar hit a ball further than he ever had before and scored on a Levi Miller single to tie it up at 2. Outfielders Dominic Adkins and Ian Schock each added a single to increase the lead to 4-2.
The Stingers stuck around until the bottom of the 7th inning when Hamel added 4 more runs thanks to timely hitting and a huge double from Harrison Boughton.

Donated by the Hamel Lions Club, the scoreboard enhances the game-day experience with live video. "We're still learning how to use it," said General Manager Greg DeVos. The Hawks plan to showcase it fully in the 2025 season.
